How to compress a PDF online

Make large PDF documents more manageable without installing software or creating an account. Compression results depend on the images and existing optimization in each file.

  • Click “Select PDF files” or drag your PDFs into the tool. Add up to 10 files, with a limit of 10 MB per file and 20 MB in total.
  • Choose Balanced or Smaller file, then click “Compress PDF”. Each PDF is processed separately.
  • Review the original and new file sizes, then download each PDF. Check text and image readability before sharing, and keep your originals.

Why use this free PDF compressor?

Smaller PDFs for email attachments, online forms and everyday sharing.

Free PDF compression

Process up to 10 PDFs per batch with no signup or added watermark. Files remain separate, so you can download only the documents you need.

Choose size or image detail

Choose Balanced or Smaller file. The smaller-file option can reduce image detail. Review small text and images in scanned pages before emailing or printing your PDF.

Local document processing

The compression tool processes PDF contents locally in your browser rather than uploading them to a processing server. Your original files are not overwritten.

See the actual size reduction

Compare the original and new sizes for each PDF. If a file cannot be made smaller, the tool tells you and offers the unchanged original instead.

PDF compression FAQs

Is this PDF compressor free?

Arrow
Yes. Compress up to 10 PDFs per batch without an account or added watermark. The limit is 10 MB per file and 20 MB in total. Signed, password-protected PDFs and XFA forms are not supported.

Are my PDFs uploaded during compression?

Arrow
No. The tool processes PDF contents in your browser, not on a processing server. Downloads are separate files and do not overwrite your originals.

Can I compress a PDF to 100 KB, 200 KB or 1 MB?

Arrow
A specific output size cannot be guaranteed. Page count, image content and existing compression affect the result. Compare the resulting size with your upload limit and check that the document is still readable.

Does compressing a PDF reduce quality?

Arrow
This tool reduces the resolution or quality of supported embedded RGB images. Stronger compression may remove fine image detail. It does not turn whole pages into images, so existing text is not deliberately rasterized. Always review your downloaded PDF.

Why did my PDF not get smaller?

Arrow
Some PDFs are already optimized or contain few compressible images. This tool optimizes supported RGB JPEG images and simple RGB image streams, and may reduce PDF structure overhead. Other image types, transparency and special color spaces are left unchanged. When no smaller result is available, you can download your unchanged original.
